Here at the Jurassic fossil shop we are dedicated to bringing you rare and unusual fossils from the uk and overseas.
Based at the heart of the jurassic coast on dorsets extensive coastline,i collect and prepare many local fossils.
In the year 2000 the dorset coast became a world heritage site,along with the grand canyon, the jurassic coast is now a site of special scientific interest.
Fossil collecting has witnessed somewhat of a renaissance over the last few years,never the less,there are still many fossils to be found along the coastline.
Tourists on guided fossil walks and family fossil excursions have been known to uncover some very rare and exciting fossils.A fossil code of conduct is in place along most of the coast which encourages collectors to register there finds,especially if of scientific importance.
Fossil collecting can be great fun and nothing beats the thrill of finding something that no other human has seen for millions of years,if visiting the coast please be aware of local tide times,and treacherous mud slides.

If you return a fossil to me please make sure it is packed properly so it does not get damaged in transit.
I do my best to give an accurate description of all fossils listed on my site,if you are not happy with the fossil and it is significantly as not described feel free to send it back.
Reconstruction,a lot of fossils these days are reconstructed.I class reconstruction as the following, a major part of the fossil has been fabricated using filler 25% or over.
A composite, two fossils put together to create a "better fossil".
Down right fakes, a fossil that is created from plaster,resin,ect,a fossil created by artistically painting a form on to original matrix,be careful of some fossils from morocco and china as this is where most fakes originate.
I deal in none of the above reconstructed fossils,occasionally a fossil will have been repaired,usually on a natural break,i will do my best to point this out on the description,but usually this makes no difference to the overall appearance,or is not noticable to the naked eye.
