A spectacular example of the Lower lias ammonite Asteroceras.
Very rarely are these ammonites found at such a size,with many hours of preparation put into this peice removing the limestone matrix to reveal both sides of the ammonite this ammonite would be the centre peice of any ammonite collection.
As you can see from the photos the middle of the ammonite can be backlighted showing beautiful dark reds,and yellow calcite.
A very displayable ammonite weighing at approx 3.5kg one minor repair which does not retract in anyway from the beauty of this peice and is virtualy invisable to the naked eye.Truly a iconic british Jurassic ammonite which are vertually unherd of at this size.
